Technical Support

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What version of Adobe Acrobat Reader should I use?
For users running Windows 98 Second Edition or later versions of Windows, we recommend Acrobat Reader 6.
For users of Windows 95 or 98, use Acrobat Reader 5.05.

Adobe Acrobat Reader 7 is also an option for Windows XP and Windows 2000 users but has a known bug and is unable to read some PDF files. We recommend that you wait until release 7.0.5 before ungrading to Acrobat Reader 7. Adobe hopes to include a fix with 7.0.5. As of this date, 6/29/2005, Adobe has not released the 7.0.5 update.

Note that all CD-ROMs shipped after 3/19/02 require Adobe Acrobat Reader 5.0 or later.

2. How can I rotate a page, such as a electrical chart, for proper viewing?
On the top tool bar there are 2 page icons with curved arrows over them. If you click on the left one the page will rotate 90 degrees to the left, the right one will rotate the page 90 degrees to the right.

3. When I close a document after viewing, why do I get a blank window instead of the prior document that I came from?
To correct this, in Adobe Reader, select the option "Open Cross-Doc Links in Same Window". See Adobe Acrobat Reader Settings on the main Technical Support page for additional information.

4. When viewing a service or parts CD, the text appears blocky and is generally unreadable. How can I correct this?
To correct this, in Adobe Reader, select the option "Smooth Text and Images". See Adobe Acrobat Reader Settings on the main Technical Support page for additional information.

5. Is it possible to copy the files on the CD-ROM onto my computer hard drive so that I don't need to load the CD to view the manual?
Yes, if you are using Windows click here for instructions. Apple Macintosh users should consult the documentation for their operating system.

Printing Issues

6. When I attempt to print a page from a manual, the page comes out blank.
This can occur when your system is low on resources. Try rebooting your computer system, after shutting off your printer for 15 seconds.

7. When I print pages from a manual, only the odd pages print, or only the even pages, or they print backwards (mirror image).
On the print confirmation screen, select the option "Print as image".

8. When I print pages from a manual, the page numbers at the bottom do not appear on the printed page.
On the print confirmation screen, select the option “Shrink oversize pages to paper size”.
